Each semester, the NCAFP hires college and university students to be an integral part of the organization’s research goals and events agenda. Aside from performing regular assigned tasks, interns are mentored and receive full encouragement to pursue a personal project that will aid their academic and/or professional ambitions.

The NCAFP is committed to promoting a healthy work-school balance, and the program duration is based on the academic semester, which spans from late January to mid-May 2026

 

The National Committee on American Foreign Policy (NCAFP) is a non-profit policy organization based in New York City that fulfills its mission through Track I½ and Track II diplomacy. These closed-door and off-the-record conferences offer opportunities for senior U.S. and foreign officials, subject experts, and scholars to engage in discussions aimed at defusing conflict, building confidence, and resolving problems. As an organization dedicated to public education, we offer a range of public programs, both virtually and in person, for the interested public.

Policy Intern, Asia-Pacific Security
Policy Intern, European and/or Middle East Security

Description:
The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in U.S. foreign policy, be abreast on current affairs, and have a demonstrated academic record in political science, international relations, history, cultural studies, or law. Additionally, candidates should be able to work both independently and collaboratively, have a keen attention to detail, the ability to multitask, and hold a positive attitude.

Duties include:

  • Providing research support for various subject matters relevant to the work of the NCAFP programs and Track II projects. Tasks may include note taking, assisting with literature reviews, compiling news briefings, and locating articles on various subject issues;
  • Building outreach lists of regional and topical experts from NYC-area universities, NGOs, think tanks, and government;
  • Creating news briefings and research memos on global current events, regional or topical;
  • In person and virtual event assistance; associated duties are preparing meeting materials, and providing on-site assistance for in-person events, briefings, and conferences;
  • Contribute to and assist with other projects as assigned.

 

Skills:

  • Willingness to learn new subject areas;
  • Strong research skills;
  • Part-time position of 15-20 hours per week.

Unfortunately, the role is unpaid. All candidates must be enrolled at a college or university and be within commuting distance of our NYC offices at 400 Madison Ave. This role is hybrid and will require both remote and in person work, as well as attending at least one virtual staff meeting per week.
