The NCAFP regularly holds substantive roundtable discussions on urgent matters of foreign policy. Roundtables are conducted under Track II guidelines of confidentiality and non-attribution.

Examples of recent roundtables include:

  • Ambassador Ruairí de Búrca, Director General for Ireland, UK & Americas in Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs, about the current state of Northern Ireland, U.S.-Ireland bilateral relations, and Irish-British relations in the post-Windsor Framework landscape
  • Michael Collins, Executive Director for the Americas at the Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP). During this roundtable, Mr. Collins shared his insights, methodology, and reportage on the Global Terrorism Index (GTI)
  • Honorable Frank Kendall, Secretary of the U.S. Air Force joined Ambassador Susan Elliott for a fireside chat about the Air and Space forces global defense priorities, current capabilities and future challenges.

Private events have included:

  • “The Future of U.S. Foreign Policy and Multilateralism,” a fireside chat with U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield and Ambassador (ret.) Harry Thomas, NCAFP Trustee.
  • “The U.S.-Japan Alliance in a Turbulent World” with Professor Ken Jimbo, Professor at the Faculty of Policy Management at Keio University; Dr. Sheila A. Smith, John E. Merow Senior Fellow for Asia-Pacific Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations; and Susan A. Thornton, Director of NCAFP’s Asia-Pacific security program.
