This program was the NCAFP’s first in-person event of 2025, a book talk featuring Dr. Suisheng Zhao. Drawing on his recently published book, The Dragon Roars Back, Professor Zhao explored shifts in China’s foreign policy since 1949, highlighting how Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping, and Xi Jinping reshaped it to align with their visions. He focused on Xi’s power consolidation and its impact on foreign policy. The discussion was moderated by Ms. Susan A. Thornton, NCAFP’s Director of Asia-Pacific Security Program.

The event was an NCAFP George D. Schwab Policy Briefing and co-hosted with the Leitner Center for International Law and Justice at Fordham Law School.
