Looking Back and Moving Forward: The NCAFP’s 25th Anniversary Celebration of the Good Friday Agreement
March 13, 2023
On March 13th, the NCAFP held a celebration to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement. This event honored the many individuals and institutions who worked tirelessly to bring peace and prosperity to Northern Ireland and its communities across the political and religious spectrum.
During the daytime, the organization hosted a conference to discuss lessons from the peace process and today’s political challenges post-Brexit. The NCAFP was honored to have a wide range of political leaders from Northern Ireland, as well as peace activists and policy experts from the region.
The NCAFP then held an evening reception to honor and celebrate the Irish American community’s support of the Good Friday Agreement, personified by the incredible leadership of William J . Flynn, NCAFP Chairman Emeritus and the former Chairman of Mutual of America. Featured speakers included Senator George J. Mitchell; Micheál Martin, TD; The Honorable Richard E. Neal, and British Consul General Emma Wade-Smith.
The evening celebration ended with the NCAFP presenting its Hans J. Morgenthau Award to Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton in recognition of her contributions to peace and stability in Northern Ireland and around the world. As the Chancellor of Queen’s University Belfast, Secretary Clinton continues to support the region and its communities.
The NCAFP would like to thank the following sponsors for generously supporting this event: Mutual of America, Invest Northern Ireland, the Consulate General of Ireland in New York, and Orion Resources.
