Dr. Thomas Banchoff is director of the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs at Georgetown University, where he also serves as vice president for global engagement and professor in the Department of Government and the Walsh School of Foreign Service.

Banchoff founded Georgetown’s Initiative for US-China Dialogue on Global Issues and the Georgetown Global Dialogues. He co-chairs the Task Force on Global Citizenship of the International Association of Jesuit Universities.

Banchoff's scholarship centers on ethical and religious issues in world politics. He is the author of Embryo Politics: Ethics and Policy in Atlantic Democracies (Cornell University Press) and The German Problem Transformed (University of Michigan Press). His edited volumes include The Jesuits and Globalization: Historical Legacies and Contemporary Challenges (Georgetown University Press), Religion and the Global Politics of Human Rights (Oxford University Press), Religious Pluralism, Globalization, and World Politics (Oxford University Press) and Democracy and the New Religious Pluralism (Oxford University Press). He has written for The Washington Post, Commonweal, The Tablet, and other outlets.

Banchoff received a B.A. from Yale University, M.A. from the University of Bonn and Ph.D. in politics from Princeton University. He held a James Bryant Conant Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Harvard's Center for European Studies, has served as a Humboldt Fellow, and was awarded the DAAD Prize for Distinguished Scholarship in German studies.
