June 12, 2020

On Friday, June 12th, the NCAFP held the final discussion in its China-ROK Emerging Leaders Roundtable Series: Regional Security Architecture of the Asia Pacific: Past, Present and Future. The discussion, led by Professor Henry Farrell (George Washington University) and Professor Abraham Newman (Georgetown University), examined the topic of weaponized interdependence and deglobalization.

Professor Farrell and Professor Newman explored questions such as what are the features of “weaponized interdependence”, how are states reacting to the use of coercive leverage, and what do these trends portend for cooperation, competition and conflict in the Asia Pacific. They also discussed the future of interconnectedness and the mounting pressure toward deglobalization as a risk mitigation strategy.
