June 10, 2026
The Northern Ireland Emerging Leaders Program returned to Stormont for a special event bringing together participants from all three cohorts of the program alongside political representatives, civic leaders, academics, business leaders, and community stakeholders. The gathering highlighted the continued impact of the Emerging Leaders network and provided a platform for intergenerational dialogue on some of the most pressing issues shaping Northern Ireland’s future.
Opening remarks were delivered by Cara Hunter MLA, who welcomed participants and reflected on the importance of investing in the next generation and collaborative approaches to addressing shared challenges. The event underscored the value of creating spaces where leaders from different sectors and backgrounds can exchange ideas and build relationships that strengthen Northern Ireland’s future.
Building an Inclusive Northern Ireland
The first panel explored the theme of inclusion and belonging in a changing society. Featuring Judith Atwell and Stephen McCrystall, the discussion examined the opportunities and challenges involved in creating a more inclusive Northern Ireland.
Drawing on their professional experiences and policy papers, the speakers reflected on how institutions, communities, and civic leaders can foster greater participation, representation, and understanding across society. The conversation highlighted the importance of meaningful engagement and sustained commitment to building a future where everyone feels they belong.
Transatlantic Leadership and Economic Development
Moderated by Program Director Emma DeSouza, the second panel focused on transatlantic leadership, economic development, and Northern Ireland’s place within the global economy.
The discussion featured emerging leaders Aaron Callan and Declan Barry, alongside Suzanne Wylie, CEO, Northern Ireland Chamber. Panelists explored the role of international partnerships, trade, investment, and innovation in supporting long-term prosperity. They also reflected on how emerging leaders can help strengthen transatlantic relationships and position Northern Ireland as a place of opportunity, collaboration, and growth.
